Alabama high school football team denied appeal, forfeits five wins
The Alabama High School Athletic Association’s (AHSAA) Central Board of Control denied Coosa Christian’s appeal of a decision of forfeiture and is still out of the playoffs for the 2024 season.Last week the AHSAA announced Coosa Christian had to forfeit a win for violating the ‘Coaching Outside the School Year’ rule. An investigation also found that an ineligible played in five games — all resulting in wins.
A recent story from The Gadsden Time detailed the AHSAA’s ruling. Below is an excerpt from The Gadsden Times.Coosa Christian had to forfeit those wins, five games total, putting it at 4-6 for the season and 1-5 in the region and out of the playoffs. At the time of the Thursday release of the second set of sanctions, the AHSAA said the investigation was still ongoing, but it’s unclear if it’s going on after Saturday’s appeal.
The Conquerors’ football program is also now placed on restrictive probation through the end of the 2025 football season. That means unless they meet specific conditions laid out by the AHSAA, they will not be able to compete in championship play. They can try for reinstatement at the Central Board’s July 2025 meeting. The conditions that Coosa Christian must meet were not released.

This marks the third time in the last two seasons Coosa Christian has faced sanctions from the AHSAA. In 2023, it had to forfeit four wins due to violations of the AHSAA transfer rules. The Conquerors still rallied to make the playoffs, advancing to the Class 1A state title game before falling to Leroy.
