A Maine high school football program announced the cancellation of its remaining season due to an ongoing hazing investigation.

Lisbon High School made the announcement shortly after announcing a forfeit of last Friday night’s game.

maineA recent story from WMTW.com detailed the hazing allegations and the reaction from the community. Below is an excerpt from the WMTW.com story.

“Due to the ongoing investigation at Lisbon High School, the Lisbon School Department has made the determination to cancel all football activities until further notice,” Spaulding said in a letter to families, students and staff, which was obtained by Maine’s Total Coverage shortly after 2:10 p.m.

Lisbon Superintendent told Maine’s Total Coverage that the football activities will remain suspended pending this investigation.

The forfeit comes one day after Lisbon police Chief Ryan McGee informed Maine’s Total Coverage that officers were investigating a recent hazing incident that happened at Lisbon High School.

In an email, McGee said he was unable to provide further details about the incident because juveniles are involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.

“We remain committed to the safety and well-being of all students and staff and will work closely with school officials throughout the investigation,” McGee said in a statement.

The father of a former Lisbon High football player told Maine’s Total Coverage that his son was hazed.

The man said he and his wife had been vocal in the past, sharing their experiences with the football team.
