Coach Wants Fencing To Remain Varsity Sport

Rachel Dean is not pleased that the Maine Twp. High School District 207 (Ill.) has a proposal on the table to drop her Maine West High fencing team from varsity to intramural status. District officials say it will save them $24,000. Dean wants to know why fencing is the only sport being cut as her school is a charter member of the Great Lakes Fencing Conference.
