A New York youth football coach was shot during an attempted robbery at a youth football game in Buffalo last Sunday.

Rashaan Mallory, 29,  allegedly forced a male and female victim into his car before driving to a youth football game, according to police reports. He then robbed two more individuals — one of whom was the Rochester youth football coach.

buffaloThe youth football coach was shot twice before Mallory attempted to flee the scene but police arrived and apprehended him — finding a Springfield Armory XD handgun at the scene.

The coach is recovering.

A recent story from the Democrat & Chronicle detailed the shooting and the response from each youth team. Below is an excerpt from the Democrat & Chronicle article.

Mallory, who is currently on parole, faces several charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, assault and three counts of robbery.

Philbert Daniel, president of Flower City Panthers, posted on Facebook that the victim of the shooting was ok.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you for the team moms, parents, and coaches for keeping our children safe,” Daniel said. “This was a random incident that could have happened anywhere. Despite what is being said, this was not a Buffalo/Rochester beef.”
