Minnesota’s Jerry Kill Readmits Himself For More Seizure Testing

September 26, 2011 /

Exactly a week after suffering a seizure late in a loss to New Mexico State, and two days after being released from the hospital, Jerry Kill returned to the sidelines for Minnesota’s win over Miami of Ohio Sept. 17.  A week later, Kill was again patrolling the sidelines as his Gophers were embarrassed in a loss Div. 1-AA North Dakota State.

Unfortunately, it appears Kill may have gotten ahead of himself medically.

In a release, Minnesota announced that Kill will be admitting himself into the Mayo Clinic “in an effort to resolve his ongoing seizure issues.”  Kill suffered another seizure Sunday morning and is currently hospitalized.

“The seizures continue to be a concern for me and my family,” Kill said in a statement. “[Wife] Rebecca and I have made the decision to do what it takes to find a solution.  I hope to be back to work soon, but we believe that taking some time away to get a handle on this is the right thing to do.”

“Coach Kill is determined to get this issue resolved,” athletic director Joel Maturi said. “We all want what’s best for him, and his health is our first and foremost concern. I have full confidence that our football staff will get the team prepared while Jerry is away. We all want him back on the sidelines. But it’s time to find a resolution.”

Kill is in his first year as the Gophers’ head coach, hired away from Northern Illinois following the firing of Tim Brewster.
