Delaware state football champion under investigation
The Delaware Interscholastic Athletics Association (DIAA) has begun an investigation into the Middletown High School football team for possible player eligibility violations.Middletown High School won the 2024 Class 3A state championship team and has been accused of player eligibility violations tied to residency. Several players are alleged to reside in another school district.
A recent article from DelawareOnline.com detailed the investigation and the alleged violations by Middletown High School. Below is an excerpt from the DelawareOnline.com article.“We are officially investigating and have notified the school,” DIAA executive director David Baylor said.
Delaware students are permitted to attend public high schools such as Middletown that are not in the feeder pattern of where they reside through School Choice. But they must submit an application and be accepted.
DIAA rules stipulate students who switch schools due to a change of address must do so “with the intent that it is permanent and not primarily for athletic purposes.”
