Aquinas High School unveils new athletic complex
The school administration says the new athletic complex is the largest undertaking since Aquinas High School opened in 1957.
A recent story from WJBF.com detailed the new athletic complex for Aquinas High School. Below is an excerpt from the WJBF.com story. The renovations include a new restroom and concession building, and a new baseball field with overhead lights–which parents say is a huge plus.
“Irish Nation is strong,” said Kaci Johnson. “Our kids, being able to separate that soccer and baseball facility is amazing for us. So, it opens up the doors for easy practice–and now that we have lights on the baseball field, it allows us to host those games later.”
The football team played their last game in the old stadium last August.
While the new stadium was under construction, the team had to play each home game at Greenbrier High School.
Athletic Director and Head Coach James Leonard says it was well worth the wait, knowing what they had before.
“The old field was great–we had some huge games in it, a lot of great memories, but at the end of the day it was old. Wooden bleachers you had to repair every summer, seating capacity wasn’t where it needed to be, press box needed updating,” Leonard said. “But it’s just unbelievable to see it come together, and it is nice, as far as coaching goes, to not have to plan out every inch of the field you’re going to use–it makes a big difference.”
