Wayne State College upgrades athletic facilities
Since 2022, Wayne State College has seen 200% growth in club sports, 25% growth in intramural participation, and the addition of two varsity athletic programs.
With all that growth, the institution needed facilities to support the athletic desires of its student body.In June 2022, Wayne State College announced plans for a $26.5 million athletic and recreation facility renovation project. This included the addition of an indoor dome and major upgrades to the school’s rec center, Rice Auditorium, and the Kirk Gardner indoor athletic complex.
A recent story from SiouxlandProud.com detailed the renovations at Wayne State College. Below is an excerpt from the SiouxlandProud.com story.
This will be a three-phase project beginning with the new indoor facility.
“We’re trying to support not only our student-athletes but all of our students. As we come into the post-COVID era, mental wellness, physical wellness are such a critical part of overall student life so this project was really important for us to move Wayne State College forward, not just on the athletic side, but also student wellness. Supporting student-athletes and all the athletic programs taking that next step in the evolution of an athletic program with these kinds of athletic programs is critically important to our success so just really excited about it,” said Wayne State College Athletic Director Mike Powicki.
