Tulane head football coach Curtis Johnson was taken to the hospital Tuesday after he was stricken with what school officials are calling fatigue caused by heat.

Athletic director Rick Dickson indicated in a statement that Johnson became fatigued during the morning Green Wave practice and was transported to Tulane Hospital in downtown New Orleans as a precaution.

“Coach Johnson is undergoing evaluation and updates will be provided when available,” Dickson said in a statement early Tuesday afternoon.

Officials expect Johnson to be released from the hospital later Tuesday.

Tulane lost to Rutgers in Johnson’s debut as head coach this past Saturday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The 50-year old took the Green Wave job after spending 2006-11 as wide receivers coach for the New Orleans Saints.
