Top-Seeded Soccer Team Forfeits 8 Games, Suspends Coach

October 4, 2011 /

The Caldwell School District announced Caldwell High School boys soccer coach Tony Villegas has been suspended indefinitely after use of ineligible players forced the team to forfeit eight games this season.

A district spokesperson told KBOI 2 that two players on the team, one varsity and one junior varsity, also played for non-school teams during the school season, which is not allowed. The junior-varsity team had to forfeit seven of its games this season.

The forfeits will affect Caldwell varsity’s 10-0-1 record – the best in conference this year – but how they might affect the team’s seed in the district playoffs which start Saturday remains to be determined.

Athletic Director Rob Kassebaum will coach the team’s final regular season game Monday night, and a determination about an interim coach will be made this week.
