Economist (and intramural basketball player) Jeremy Arkes, 42, has conducted research at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., about the science of streaky shooting. His work was recently published in the Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports. His research focused on free-throw shooting and found that players may, in fact, get a “hot hand.”
