GILROY, Calif. – Parents and teachers protested in Gilroy Thursday night against a decision to fire the gilroy high school athletic director. They say he’s being unfairly linked to a DUI scandal involving the school’s former track coach, who by the way, is a former U.S. Olympian.

“He’s a selfless worker, puts his heart and soul in the job,” says parent Tom Cline.

That’s apparent in this packed meeting room. These people all showed up to support Gilroy High Athletic Director Jack Daley, who they claim was unfairly fired.

Some held signs while others almost in tears spoke at the podium. Tom Cline has two kids at Gilroy High.

“With his reputation and track record,” says Cline. “He’s taking the ball for something he didn’t have anything to do with.”

The Board doesn’t comment on personnel issues. But according to the Gilroy Dispatch, Daley was let go after a DUI accident involving former Gilroy High Track and Field Coach Alvin Harrison.

While no students were in the car accident, Daley rented that car for Harrison, who didn’t have a license. Daley told the Dispatch, he didn’t know that.

Gilroy High teacher Peggy Branvold is worried the athletic program may now be in jeopardy without him.

“It was a wrong decision,” says Branvold. “He did nothing wrong as far as we know.”

On Thursday night, the board just listened to the crowd but didn’t take any action. They are expected to find Daley’s replacement next week.
