Quick trips for sports travel

Preparing for any trip can be overwhelming, but even more so when the trip is sports related. Regardless of whether you are traveling 200 miles or 2,000 miles, keep the following tips in mind to minimize issues along your journey.

Hydrate
Remember to stay hydrated throughout the day. Whether you’re spending the day practicing or spending the day as a tourist, make sure you’re body is getting the adequate hydration it needs.

Packing
Bring only the essentials and pack clothes fit for comfort and performance. This type of clothing will be suitable for workouts and practice or a day of exploring. This also makes space in your suitcase for any items purchased during your trip or trophies.

Prepare
Expect the unexpected when it comes to your trip. Bring any items you might need to aid in healing from an injury, like wraps or braces.

Nutrition
During the playing season, athletes may have a meal plan in place to help them build strength and stay healthy. But staying on track while traveling can be hard. Prior to your trip, research restaurants in the city you’ll be visiting and make a list of places that will help you eat better.

Behavior
When traveling, especially abroad, you are representing your team and sport. Keep sportsmanship at top of mind and treat competitors like you would your teammates.

Most importantly, remember to have fun and enjoy the experience. Sports travel provides student athletes the opportunity to learn how a sport is celebrated in another city, meet players from all walks of life and embrace a new culture.
