ATHENS, Ohio (June 5, 2012) – Ohio University’s sports management programs have been granted accreditation by the Board of Commissioners of the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA).

“Ohio University is the first national university to be granted accreditation by COSMA, and this is a testament of our continued success in understanding the business of sports,” said Dr. Ming Li, chair of the department of sports administration. “Our programs are closely aligned with COSMA’s developmental approach to promoting excellence in sport management education.”

COSMA is a specialized accrediting body whose purpose is to promote and recognize excellence in sport management education in colleges and universities at the baccalaureate and graduate levels through specialized accreditation.

“We are extremely proud and excited about receiving full accreditation for the Department of Sports Administration,” said College of Business Dean Hugh Sherman. “This accreditation will only help us strengthen the national reputation of this program and allow us to expand the professional career opportunities of the graduates of this program.”

The Department of Sports Administration at Ohio University has provided sports management education for more than 40 years. Recently, its graduate program was named the world’s best postgraduate sports course provider by SportBusiness International’s Postgraduate Sports Course Ranking 2012.
