The mother of a Mississippi high school girls basketball player has been charged with assault after punching the team’s coach following Thursday’s game.

BasketballHoopWCBI-TV in Mississippi reported that the attack took place during the first quarter of the Hamilton High School boys basketball game. It sounds as though the girls game had just concluded, and players and coaches were preparing to leave the gym.

WCBI-TV reported that a dispute took place over coach Sue Verner’s rule that players must ride the bus back to the school following away games. The parent appears to have not agreed with that rule, and she reportedly attacked Verner as a result.

The boys game was called off and police cleared the gym. The article said that Verner was knocked unconscious and suffered a fracture under her left eye and a gash above the other.

WCBI reported that the parent turned herself in to police that night and was charged with simple assault on a school official, a felony.
