MANHATTAN, Kan. | Kansas State announced Monday the launch of its own online network, K-StateHD.TV, which will begin broadcasting some home athletic events to subscribers Aug. 30.

The network will provide a home for the Wildcats’ third-tier broadcast rights, which will include their season-opening football game against Eastern Kentucky and home games in other sports such as volleyball, baseball and women’s basketball.

All games that aren’t picked up by the Big 12’s television partners will be available on the network. Athletic director John Currie said that some games that are broadcast on TV will also be simulcast live online.

The network will also show game replays, news conferences, on-campus lectures and original programming, all in high definition.

The first game to be broadcast on the network will be K-State’s home volleyball opener against Creighton on Aug. 30. For the football opener, K-StateHD.TV will lead up to the 6 p.m. kickoff with a pregame show that starts at 5:20 p.m. If all goes well, postgame shows could be added as the network matures.

A majority of the network’s programming, including campus lectures and performances, will be available for free, but live games will require a subscription to view. The network is an extension of a currently available, though more limited service, and is charging $9.95 per month and $79.95 per year for premium access.

Currie doesn’t expect the network to be a big money-maker, at least right away, but because the school already owns a fully functional HD production truck, expenses for the campaign won’t be large, either.

“The first goal in this deal is exposure,” Currie said. “Exposure for our university and exposure for our student athletes.”
