’Green Card’ Incident Shows Larger Problem In Lexington

In a city where close to 75 percent of the students are Latino, soccer games in Lexington, Ky., have been marred by racist comments including derogatory remarks dealing with immigration and legal status. This week, as Lincoln East High beat Omaha South, 4-2, for the Class A state soccer title, as fans stormed the field, a shower of “green cards” fell to the ground. Now, the school and its students are working to repair the relationship with Omaha South.
