Division I basketball’s last independent program joining ASC
The last independent NCAA Division I basketball program will reportedly have a home next season.
The New Jersey Institute of Technology, which made headlines last season by beating No. 20 Michigan in Ann Arbor, is expected to announced today it’s headed to the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The NJIT Highlanders have been independent since 2013, when the Great West conference was dissolved. Northern Kentucky is leaving the ASC for the Horizon League, and NJIT is expected to be its replacement.
The Highlanders finished last season 21-12. Their win against Michigan was the first time in NJIT history they’ve faced a ranked opponent.
