Coach Forced To Choose Between A.D, Football Coach Positions Files Complaint With EEOC

Terry Smith, football coach and athletic director at Gateway High School, has filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against the Gateway School District.
Earlier this year, the district reduced Smith’s athletic director position from full time to part time and also adopted a resolution that does not allow that position to have a supplemental contract as a coach.
The resolution goes into effect in 2013, which essentially means Smith must choose the part-time athletic director job or coach.
NAACP officials have supported Smith and said race played a role in district decisions concerning Smith. Smith said the Gateway district was presented with “papers” from the EEOC on Monday.
