Conference USA associate commissioner Judy MacLeod, who once worked as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Seattle University, will fill the position on the NCAA men’s basketball committee vacated when Steve Orsini was dismissed as athletic director by SMU.

The men’s basketball committee is more commonly known as “the selection committee,” carrying the responsibility of selecting, seeding and bracketing teams for the NCAA Tournament field.

MacLeod was an assistant coach at Seattle for four seasons and has worked in college athletics for more than two decades, including a 10-year stretch as athletics director at Tulsa. She joined Conference USA in 2005 and has risen to executive associate commissioner. Her term on the selection committee will continue through the 2014-15 season.

She is the third female to serve on the men’s basketball committee, joining Charlotte A.D. Judy Rose and Texas-San Antonio A.D. Lynn Hickey, each of whom served previously.

The selection committee is chaired by Xavier A.D. Mike Bobinski, who takes over that position from new Hofstra A.D. Jeff Hathaway.

Other members are: LSU A.D. Joe Alleva; Utah State A.D. Scott Barnes; Oklahoma A.D. Joe Castiglione; Big Sky commissioner Doug Fullerton; Michigan State A.D. Mark Hollis; Delaware A.D. Bernard Muir; Wake Forest A.D. Ron Wellman and West Coast commissioner Jamie Zaninovich.
