Brown University Names New Athletic Director

After a national search, Brown University has decided to hire a native Rhode Islander to head its athletic department.

Jack Hayes, who grew up in Rhode Island and graduated from the Providence Country Day School and Providence College, was named Brown’s athletic director at an afternoon press conference at the Pizzitola Center.

“I’ve come full circle,’ said Hayes, whose first job was working in Brown’s sports information office “To be able to come back 22 years later is a great feeling.’

“I’ve come back home,’ he said.

Hayes has been the athletic director at Hofstra for the last eight years. He previously worked in the athletic departments at Connecticut, Fordham, St. John’s and Fairfield.

Hayes played football, basketball and lacrosse at PCD, was inducted into that school’s Hall of Fame in 2004. He also played lacrosse at Providence College.
