Auriemma: ‘If your body language is bad, you’ll never get in the game’

Video from a Geno Auriemma press conference during last year’s NCAA women’s Final Four is getting a lot of attention this week, and it’s worth revisiting given its strong message to young athletes.
Auriemma, who has led UConn to 109 straight wins and four consecutive national titles, took time during his presser to rail against selfish players who fail to show enthusiasm for the game or their teammates. He even talked about players on his own team and how a couple years earlier he benched one of his best players for “acting like a 12-year-old.”
“I’d rather lose than watch some kids play the way some kids play,” he said. “And they’re allowed to get away with whatever and they’re always thinking about themselves. I didn’t score, why should I be happy? I didn’t get enough minutes, why should I be happy?
