UIL disciplines two Texas high school football coaches for recruiting violations
Two Texas high school football coaches are serving suspensions handed down by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) last winter due to rule violations.
Galena Park North Shore High School, located in the Houston area, saw its high school football head coach Willie Gaston and his former assistant disciplined by the UIL in February for illegal recruiting.
A recent story from KHOU 11 detailed the suspensions of Galena Park North’s football coaches. Below is an excerpt from the KHOU 11 story.
Gaston was given a two-game suspension that will be served at the beginning of district play during this football season. The punishment was “for lack of proper oversight of his coaching staff.” According to the UIL, a member of Gaston’s coaching staff tried to recruit student-athletes.
Former Galena Park North Shore High School assistant football coach Andrew Cameron got a three-year ban from all UIL activities.
Some other suspensions were handed out around the state, including one year of probation for Round Rock Cedar Ridge High School Girls Soccer Coach Gustavo Lopez for “his ejection from a contest while on probation from a previous ejection.”
Runge High School Boys Basketball Coach Aaron Escamilla’s appeal was denied. He was issued one year of probation, a public reprimand and additional training.
