Track Coach Calls Foul Over Bracelet, Opponent Disqualified

May 12, 2010 /
South Pasadena High’s (Calif.) Robin Laird, cleared 7-feet-6-inches in the pole vault event on April 29, which was good enough to win the event and secure a team victory for South Pasadena over visiting Monrovia High. The victory gave South Pasadena the league title over Monrovia. However, Monrovia’s coach, Mike Knowles, alerted officials that Laird was wearing a thin, string “friendship” bracelet, which is against the league’s no-jewelry rule. Laird was disqualified, South Pasadena lost the meet and Monrovia went on to the league title.
