Waldport had just five players and seniors ready to play when Waldport High School Athletic Director Ron Russell called the other athletic directors of the PacWest Conference Monday to cancel the season.

In 2006, the Irish won the 2A/1A softball state championship with a 22-2 record. Last year, the season was cut short, as the team played its final game on April 15, a 13-1 home loss to Harrisburg.

Roxie McGrath was set to take over the reins of the program from Ed Phillips who had coached the Irish girls for eight seasons.
