University of Hartford women’s basketball coach Jennifer Rizzotti was announced on Monday as one of six inductees in the Class of 2013 to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Rizzotti, the only player inducted this year, joins head coaches Gary Blair of Texas A&M and Jim Foster of Ohio State.

Rizzotti, a New Fairfield native who went on to become an All-American at UConn, played for five seasons in the WNBA. She was drafted by the WNBA’s Houston Comets in 1999 where she earned a pair of championship rings. She also spent three seasons in the American Basketball Association with the New England Blizzard where she was named to the All-Star team on two occasions.

As a Husky, Rizzotti averaged 11.4 points and totaled 1, 540 points, 637 assists and 349 steals, earning Associated Press National Player of the Year recognition as well as the Wade Trophy, indicative of the outstanding senior player in women’s college basketball. As a junior, the feisty point guard led the Huskies to their first national championship and perfect 35-0 record in 1995 for which she appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated. She was a two-time Kodak All-America First Team selection, a GTE/CoSIDA Women’s Basketball Academic All-American, the Big East Player of the Year and the Big East Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

After her playing career, Rizzotti became the head coach of the women’s basketball team at the University of Hartford—a position she has held for the past 13 years. As coach of the Hawks, Rizzotti has been named the America East Conference Coach of the Year on three occasions, and has led the UofH to Four America East regular season titles, five America East Tournament titles and six trips to the NCAA Tournament. Rizzotti has compiled an all-time record of 255 wins and 150 losses for a .630 percentage.

Rizzotti and the 2013 Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductees will be officially introduced at the 2012 State Farm Tip-Off Classic between Baylor and Kentucky on November 13 in Waco, Tex. Her induction will take place at the Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Ky., on June 8, 2013. For more information on the State Farm Tip-Off Classic or the induction ceremony please visit www.wbhof.com.
