The University of Louisville will take on Samford Thursday night with an eye toward the Bahamas. The No. 2 Cardinals (1-0) face the Bulldogs (1-1) and Miami (Ohio) before playing an NCAA Tournament-like field in the Battle 4 Atlantis next week. The Atlantis field includes No. 9 Duke, No. 14 Missouri, No. 17 Memphis, Minnesota and Virginia Commonwealth. U of L head coach Rick Pitino said Wednesday at his news conference that his team needed to make several improvements before then.
“We are not ready to play in the Battle 4 Atlantis for that type of competition, Pitino said. We are not ready yet because we’re not rebounding the ball well enough.”
After the Cards were outrebounded both in their final exhibition game against Bellarmine and their opener against Manhattan, Pitino had a video montage made of former Morehead State forward Kenneth Faried, who is now with the Denver Nuggets.
