Monroe’s Jefferson High School wrestling team is being investigated for hazing by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office after a student reported he was sexually assaulted in a locker room shower.

Deputies said five team members, a mix of sophomores, juniors and seniors, could face charges of assault and battery and criminal sexual conduct. The students have been suspended during the investigation.
The student first reported the incident to police in late December. Since then, police said more students have come forward saying they were victims, too.
Police said they are not investigating the team’s coach, but he is no longer serving as the coach.
The district’s superintendent released the following statement:
“The administration is conducting an ongoing investigation regarding alleged incidents of hazing and bullying within the Jefferson High School wrestling program. The administration is taking the allegations seriously and will not tolerate this type of behavior. We are working in cooperation with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and we are committed to resolving this issue with a just outcome.”
