People wanting answers about the football playoff split will have to keep waiting.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association referred the controversial Proposition 18 to the School Relations Committee for further study during the LHSAA’s spring meeting Wednesday in Baton Rouge.

“I think it’s prudent we take the time to make sure we’ve heard all angles and all possible solutions or recommendations on the divisions,” said Todd Guice, LHSAA Executive Committee president.

Principals voted in January to separate schools that select their enrollment into different football playoff brackets from those that cannot select their enrollment.

In Proposition 18, select schools would be divided into divisions based on school size once they reached the playoffs.

Non-select schools would still be divided into playoffs based on their classifications.

The School Relations Committee will be charged with hashing out the details of the new playoff format. Its findings will be presented at the LHSAA’s summer meeting in June.

Unknowns include how many divisions select schools will play in and how participants in each division are decided.

“We’ll hit the ground hard with the school relations committee, and we’ll make sure everybody gets minutes and knows what’s going on,” said LHSAA Director Kenny Henderson. “There’ll be surveys that will go out, and we’ve got to look at some things that have led us to this point.”
