A Kentucky state panel is tasked with studying the lack of regulations on middle school sports, and is expected to make recommendations before the next General Assembly.

The move comes after the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Director suggested that not having “minimum requirements” for health and safety could put students at risk.

The association oversees high school athletics, but not middle school athletes.

Lawmakers passed a resolution during this year calling for research on the issue.

Members of the research panel are to be named by August 1st, and will be asked to report findings by December 7th.
