Houston H.S. Deals With Shooting Death Of Football Coach

April 4, 2011 / Football

ROSENBERG, Texas – An early morning vigil started the day for staff and students at George Ranch High School after two of its faculty members were shot and killed over the weekend.

Crisis counselors are also on-hand to assist students at the Fort Bend County school.

There were a total of three people found dead at a Richmond motel late Friday. One was a high school football coach.

While this hasn’t been confirmed, those close to the case say it looks like a double murder-suicide.

Just before 5 p.m. Friday, Rosenberg police got a disturbance call from the Regency Suites off Highway 59. When officers arrived, they found three people dead.

A man and a woman shot to death outside of a hotel room, and another man shot to death inside the room.
One weapon, a hand gun, was found at the scene.

Police say the bodies have been identified as 39-year old Destiny Pickett, 39-year old Trevor White and Destiny’s Pickett’s estranged husband 50-year Clifford Pickett.

Lamar Consolidated ISD confirmed with us over the phone that Destiny Pickett was an instructional coordinator at George Ranch High School in Richmond and Trevor White was the head football coach at George Ranch as well.

At this point, police are not saying who shot who.

Destiny Pickett had just filed for divorce last month and was granted a temporary restraining order against her husband.

We stopped by both of the victims’ homes where it seemed relatives had gathered, but nobody wanted to go on camera.

In Richmond, neighbors of the Pickett’s say the couple had two children, including a daughter who was battling cancer.

We also learned that a babysitter was home with the kids last night at the time of the shooting.

And in Katy, neighbors of Coach White say he was also married with two kids.

Neighbors of Coach White say they never witnessed any family problems, but neighbors of the Pickett’s say they often saw the husband coming and going.

Police have stopped short of telling us who the gunman was, but they do say they are not looking for any other suspects, which further indicates the likely scenario of a murder-suicide.

The family of Coach White released this statement on Sunday:

“We would like to thank everyone for the love, support and prayers for our family at this difficult time. We are praying for all those impacted by the loss in this tragedy, especially all the children. We don’t understand and no words can express our sadness. We are heartbroken. The family would appreciate privacy as we go through this difficult time.”
