High School Pitching Rule Changed

The AHSAA Central Board tweaked its baseball pitching rule Wednesday, mandating that pitchers are prohibited from pitching for three straight days after each seven-inning stretch.

A committee of baseball coaches led by Mountain Brook’s Lee Gann studied the issue, and Gann recommended the rule change at Wednesday’s quarterly meeting of the Central Board. The new rule will go into effect for the 2011 season.

“It puts emphasis on the safety of the player, (and) that’s the bottom line,” Gann said.
