BOISE – For those of you flipping through the Sunday Edition of the Idaho Statesman it’s hard to miss A7. A full page ad asking you to tell Dr. Bob Kustra to BRING GENE BACK!

This comes as Boise State’s Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier was fired after 30 years on the job.

In early May the NCAA charged Boise State’s athletic program with a lack of institutional control finding one major infraction, allowing a women’s tennis player to play for the team when she wasn’t actually enrolled at Boise State.

Other minor violations amounted to certain athletes receiving extra benefits.

Bleymaier took the heat and someone wants him back.

“What do you think of the full page ad?”

“I do think it’s impressive. go for it!” said Cindy Walker of Boise.

“I think that letting someone go after 30 years without one heck of a good reason is just inappropriate and I think it’s wonderful that someone took the time and the resources and the money to put this in. I’m all for it. Go, go, go! Let’s get him back his job,” said Robert Collins of Boise.

“Definitely see someone wants him back and that’s good. He should be back. I mean he got us a lot of good games I mean why not bring him back,” said Tyler Anthony of Boise.

Whoever replaces Bleymaier will have some big shoes to fill. Bleymaier has driven Boise State to some of its highest heights over the last thirty years.

The ad was paid for by John Sullivan and supporters of reinstating Gene Bleymaier. It’s about a $2,000 spot and still leaves us wondering who is Sullivan and will this ad have any impact.
