Ed Thomas Law Takes Effect

A new law requiring hospitals to notify police whenever they release a mental health patient who is wanted by authorities or have charges pending went into effect yesterday. The law is named after legendary high school football coach Ed Thomas of Aplington-Parkersburg High (Iowa) who was shot to death by a former student in June 2009.
