A Royal Oak High School soccer coach resigned Monday after parents complained he used his Facebook page to post threatening messages aimed at parents and players.
Superintendent Thomas Moline said Jason Windsor resigned due to schedule confilcts. “He simply had too many other obligations and it was causing problems with adequate coverage for this sport,” said Moline.
Moline said Windsor resigned as Ravens coach because he couldn’t juggle all the responsiblities of coaching four other teams. Moline said he was aware of the Facebook postings. “There may have been controversy, but it appears the coach resolved it himself by stepping down.”
A copy of Windsor’s Facebook page shows there may have been more than schedule conflicts. There appeared to be problems between the coach and his players’ parents.
One particular posting indicates the coach’s hostility towards parents. “3 words my varsity soccer parents will get used to this week. BENCH, JV, CUT. You will all be taught a lesson you sh– stirring pri—!!!!!!!”
Windsor says the allegations are false and his account was hacked into. “I didn’t write that. My account was hacked into a bunch of times. People will back me up that I would never take it out on a kid no matter how bad a parent is.”
But a parent said one of Windsor’s Facebook friends saw the postings and notified them. The parent said they made copies of the postings and turned them over to Athletic Director Brian Gordon.
Gordon confirmed the resignation. The Facebook postings seemed to have been a result of arguments between Windsor and some parents over his coaching style.”I think he has anger issues,” said Carolyn Steele, mother of a senior player.
This was Windsor’s first year coaching the Raven’s but August Facebook postings showed he was excited at the opportunity to coach the team. “It should be a fun year! We have a very strong freshmen class coming in so the future looks good for the program,” says a post shortly after his July hiring.
Windsor said he was simply too busy with his other club teams and juggling his schedule was becoming too much. “If I can’t make games it’s difficult for a team to be successful. That’s why I resigned,” said Windsor. “The Facebook stuff had nothing to do with it. I had to leave a game early on Friday night to go to a club game and they said he isn’t committed.”
