Nikki Roadman’s kids will attend Northbridge Middle School in a few years. When they get there, they might not be able to play sports through the school.

“My kids are super young,” said Roadman. “They’re not involved in any of these things yet but I don’t want their friends to leave and I want more good people to keep coming and moving into this town.”

In May, voters in Northbridge, Massachusetts, did not pass funding through an override, meaning the school district had to cut one point $1 million from next year’s school budget.

“It had tremendous impact moving forward from Pre-K through grade 12,” said Dr. Catherine Stickney, Northbridge’s superintendent.

Stickney says they’ve cut 23 classes and programs at the high school, 15 teaching positions in the district, some co-op sports, and all middle school sports.

“For some of our students this is truly the reason that brings them into school everyday and motivates them to work hard and work through their classes,” said Stickney.
