As Big 12 athletic directors huddled Monday to discuss expansion and other topics, the conference’s basketball coaches said they are OK with the league’s current 10-team configuration.
“Ten seems fine to me, Kansas coach Bill Self said. The round-robin (schedule) is great for basketball. And the money won’t be a heck of a lot more split between 10 and 14 or 16.”
Forbes Magazine reported last week that Big 12 schools will receive $26.2 million this year in revenue — more than any other conference from television contracts, bowl games and NCAA basketball tournament revenue. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told the Austin American-Statesman that payout should soar to more than $40 million per school by the end of its current 12-year television contract.
Bowlsby told reporters at the end of Monday’s meeting in Dallas that many different topics were discussed.
