USA Basketball suspends all events until further notice due to COVID-19

With the global health pandemic that is the COVID-19 novel coronavirus continuing to spread, many sports organizations are opting to cancel their seasons or suspend 2020 campaigns until further notice.

In a statement posted on the organization’s website on March 13th, the USA Basketball board of directors announced that in response to the spread of COVID-19, they would be suspending “all events” until further notice.

“The USA Basketball Board of Directors announced that in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and out of concern for the health and safety of the athletes, coaches, staff and fans, it was suspending all USA Basketball scheduled events until further notice and that it was cancelling the 2020 Nike Hoop Summit that was scheduled for April 10 at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.”

The organization also clarified some of their upcoming events, including the 2020 Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Nationals.

“USA Basketball’s suspension of upcoming events includes the 2020 Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Nationals, which will be rescheduled for a later date.”

And as far as how long the suspension of activities will last, the organization says it will continue to monitor other sporting entities in making the decision to resume play.

“USA Basketball will continue to monitor the situation and remain in contact with the many stakeholders involved, including the USOPC, FIBA, NBA, WNBA, NCAA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
