One south Georgia university’s athletic program is expanding.Thomas University just hired former WNBA player and Tennessee Tech Assistant Coach Coretta Brown to be the institutions first women’s basketball coach.
School officials say the addition of both women’s and men’s basketball will not only boost enrollment, but also the local economy.
“Well we had basketball all the way up till about 10 years ago and it was very well supported through the community. A lot of people showed up at the games, took an interest in it, said Athletic Director Mike Lee.
The school also has plans of adding volleyball and cross country.
The first full men’s and women’s basketball seasons will begin in the Fall of 2013.
