Remember that video of Billy Gillispie running from reporters as his tenure at Kentucky was coming to an end? He may have another ugly situation from which to run at Texas Tech.

Gillispie, currently in a Lubbock hospital following what he told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal felt like a stroke or heart attack, is facing growing allegations of mistreatment of players, according to a report from CBSSports.com.

Fifteen players have left the Red Raider program since Gillispie took over last summer, according to the report, which cites unnamed sources as saying Gillispie has also reneged on several promises to assistants and kept players in scholarship limbo.

Former players told the website that Gillispie broke NCAA rules limiting practice time to four hours a day and 20 hours a week.

Former Red Raiders player Jaron Nash told CBSSports.com that one marathon practice lasting until about 9 p.m. included a teammate that had stress fractures in both legs. An unnamed source that the website says was within the program last season identified that player as Kader Tapsoba.

“He was literally crying at practice, the source told CBSSports.com. He couldn’t even run and Gillispie had him running up and down the steps at the arena. I remember the doctor getting the X-rays back and coming to practice and telling Gillispie it was really bad. He’d just ice him up and tell him to go practice.”

CBSSports.com has gotten no response from Gillispie, who coached at Kentucky from 2007-2009, or Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt, but quoted an unnamed university spokesman as saying the school’s leaders are “aware and are looking into concerns within the leadership of our men’s basketball program.”
