Michigan basketball coach John Beilein announced Wednseday that sophomore forwards Evan Smotrycz and Colton Christian and freshman guard Carlton Brundidge have left the program and intend to transfer.

Michigan basketball coach John Beilein announced today that sophomore forward Evan Smotrycz (23), sophomore forward Colton Christian and freshman guard Carlton Brundidge have the Wolverine basketball program and transfer to another school.

“We never like to see players leave the program. However, Evan, Colton and Carlton have made the decision to transfer and continue their careers elsewhere, Beilein said in a released statement. All three are fine young men with bright futures. We wish them and their families nothing but success going forward.”

Smotrycz played in all 69 games in his two seasons in Ann Arbor, averaging 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds while playing in 19.4 minutes per game.

Christian came off the bench in his 45 appearances, averaging 3.8 minutes.

Brundidge, a Southfield product, played in 15 games in his freshman season, averaging 2.9 minutes. He said he’s leaving because of playing time.

“It was a family decision, what my family is going through, Brundidge told the Free Press. It’s best for me to go somewhere where I was going to play.”

He doesn’t know where he’ll transfer, though he said U-M told him he cannot transfer to any of U-M’s future scheduled opponents. He said he wants to go to a team that’s “aggressive” and “lets its guards play.”
