Eastern Michigan men’s basketball coach Rob Murphy will receive a new contract, assuming the school’s Board of Regents approves it Tuesday.

Murphy, who considered leaving for a scouting job with the Orlando Magic in mid-August, receives an additional year on the contract through 2017, plus a number of other boosts. His base salary remains at $210, 000 per year, though he gets a $10, 000 bonus July 1 each year.

Interestingly, the contract was agreed to on May 15, three months before the interaction with the Magic became public. A clause was added that the contract will be extended by a year every season he wins 20 games and/or reaches the postseason.

He will get $25, 000 for his radio show, instead of $15, 000 from his original contract when he was hired in April 2011. For winning the Mid-American Conference regular-season and tournament title, the bonus increases from $20, 000 to $25, 000. The College Insider Tournament and College Basketball Invitational postseason tournaments have been added as incentive clauses for appearing ($7, 500) and winning games ($2, 500 for each win), plus the NIT appearance and win bonus was bumped up from $2, 500 to $10, 000.

The MAC division title bonus increased (up $2, 500 to $12, 500), and there are bonus increases for winning 12-14 games (up $2, 500 to $7, 500), 15-17 games (up $2, 500 to $10, 000) and 18-19 games (up $5, 000 to $15, 000).

There are various poll bonuses as well. Also added in the new version is Murphy’s ability to receive five “professional development opportunities” to enhance his “ability to coach and/or manage” the program.
