Wagner Breaks Ground on New Athletic Facility

Wagner College recently broke ground on a new $3 million athletic facility that is set for completion in the spring of 2022.

Wagner College President Joel W. Martin, CFO John Carrescia, Senior Vice President Angelo Araimo, Athletic Director Walt Hameline and head football coach Tom Masella joined Staten Island Deputy Borough President Ed Burke and New York State Senator Diane Savino to celebrate the start of construction adjacent to Hameline Field.

wagner“It is a great day for Wagner College and our athletic department that highlights the powerful support of our committed alumni,” President Joel Martin commented. “This new building will create first-class spaces worthy of our student-athletes as they strive for excellence in the classroom and during athletic competition.”

The project is self-funded by the Wagner College Athletic Department and supported by a $600 thousand Higher Education Capital matching grant from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

“We are very excited to build this new facility that will benefit all of our student-athletes and help us win championships in the future,” said Hameline.

The college’s newest facility will feature a weight room, locker room, athletic training facility, and equipment room and will benefit all Wagner varsity athletic teams.

Additionally, the new facility will offer the option for future expansions if necessary.

Earlier this year, Wagner also received a Higher Education Capital grant to renovate the Harborview Residence Hall.
