UNC Wilmington student-athletes complete nearly 4,200 hours of community service

The University of North Carolina Wilmington has announced that student-athletes contributed 4,197 hours of community service in the local area during the 2022-2023 school year.

Even with unparalleled success during the 2022-23 athletic year, UNCW student-athletes still found ways to contribute nearly 4,200 hours of community service to the greater Wilmington area.

wilmingtonThe Seahawks won a school-record five Colonial Athletic Association team championships and sent two other individuals to the NCAA Regionals in the best athletic year in school history. On top of that, UNCW’s student-athletes compiled a cumulative 3.402 GPA during the spring, 2023, semester.

Still, the Seahawks were involved in a variety of ways on the community service front and made a significant impact on the Wilmington community. Overall, UNCW’s 19 intercollegiate teams contributed 4,197 total hours. The top five teams contributing community service hours featured softball (686), baseball (680), volleyball (559), women’s soccer (496), and men’s soccer (356).

Community service projects by UNCW’s individuals and teams included the following: Thanksgiving Food Drive for Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina (316 pounds), National Girls and Women in Sports Day Clinic, Wrightsville Beach Clean-up, Elementary School readings, Harry’s Game, First Tee Greater Wilmington clinics, Seahawk Club Thank-a-Thon, Wings Up Wilmington, Battleship Half Marathon, Toys for Tots, Angel Tree Collection, Seahawks Tomorrow, Miracle League, UNCW Move-In, Surfer’s Healing, Paws4People, Wilmington Diaper Bank.
