Washington enjoys biggest increase in high school sports participation in the country

The U.S. Census bureau estimates the state of Washington’s population increased by 1.7 percent from 2016 to 2017, the fourth-highest increase in the nation. The state’s high school sports participation total increased a lot more than that, however. Washington had 172,229 high school athletes during the 2016-17 school year, up a whopping 13.3 percent from 2015-16.
