Montana considers transgender athlete policy

Montana could soon become the next state to adopt a formal policy on transgender athletes.
The state athletic association is expected to vote on the proposal Monday, Jan. 19. If approved, the Montana High School Association would be responsible for reviewing whether transgender athletes are eligible to play a sport in the gender they identify with. The policy would take effect July 1.
Montana would become the 34th state to adopt a transgender policy. Arizona and Minnesota recently approved similar policies.
